Bantorget 9, Lund, Skåne, Sweden

Bantorget 9 is young restaurant in the southern Swedish city of Lund. Serving great local food at reasonable price. This was our visit in good company.

Tonight we are a small group of 5, It is Saturday and We have shortly before arrived in Lund after 2 days of high end dining eating (Vendõme and Fredriksminde). So a little tired and not extremely hungry. However still very much looking forward to seeing our friends and having studied the menu of Bantorget We have high expectations.

We start by ordering some wine

Caloti, Rosato (Rosé is strangely not common yet in Scandinavia)
2012 Sancerre, Les Aristides

Amuse: Liver and crisp
Green Asparagus, new cheese
Sweetened Steak Tatar, cabbage and green pepper Mayo
Charred Jerusalem Artichoke with onion and goats milk foam
Veal brisket with portabello, greens, mushroom and ducks liver
Beetroot ice cream with liquorice, in white chocolate

2010 Herdade do Portocarro
2011 Lange, Nebbiolo
This is high end cooking, the chef Alexander Lööf knows his metier and you can feel it through presentation as well as every single bite. It is a very well organized restaurant, friendly and competent service but still keep both feed solidly planted in the ground of a southern Swedish university city
A four course menu here is 40 – 50 EU, it will make you full and please all you senses, I just wish it could be here in Luxembourg  we could have this combination of quality and price. (The closest we come to this style is in Chateau Bourglinster)

Lessons Learned

  • Mellemretter (Medium sized plates is a good Swedish concept)
  • Quality can be had for reasonable amount
  • Seeing your friends again is always a joy and too rare an occasion!
  • Life is good….
