How 2 Spend a day @ Norsminde Kro

Norsminde kro is a magical place.. In the middle of nature, 20Km south of Århus, Denmark next to a tiny picturesque harbor: You will find this temple of good food.

I had looked forward to this visit since Christmas, and now I just hoped Norsminde would deliver.

Next to Norsminde Kro you have the fish bistro, inside the kitchen is divided into brasserie and fine dining/Slow food – Norsminde kro (Inn) is also the local wine merchant.

We had booked a 1 night stay with the 5 course Brasserie menu followed by breakfast.
Joined by friends we hadn’t seen in a while, Princess Anne’s fish allergies and my lactose intolerance and a house filled to the brim they had a challenge.

We should have been in the brasserie, which was full due to it being a big confirmation/christening weekend in DK. So We where relocated downstairs to the fine slow food restaurant.
Perfect for romance and Danish hygge (cosiness) – but not so much for taking pic’s without flash.

Here’s the result:

Norsminde – is another strong recommendation, a place i hope to revisit many times in the future.

  • Norsminde Setting is magical in fair weather
  • Service is simple and correct – they serve and you pour. (Perfect in this corner of Jutland.)
  • Bread (not photographed) was good but not special
  • Wine selection appeared smaller than usual – but still impressive
  • My starter was a tad salty (salted cod?).. rest was cooked to perfection.
  • Rooms are simple, clean …. it is not luxury, but perfectly acceptable.
  • …but due to the website call them for info/offers in English
  • Limited UK Website and extended DK site

Lessons learned
  • Denmark has destinations for international food travelers outside Copenhagen
    • But it is outside the scope of Michelin
  • Slow food, quality ingredients, local simplicity are Norsminde trademarks.
  • Excellent price/quality
  • Life is good
  •   – enjoy it
