How 2 find solutions when having a full day of vacation on Mallorca..
it is not possible. Landing Friday afternoon and taking off Sunday 50 hours later made Saturday the first and last full day of vacationing. Trying to do our best we spent a small fortune living the good life… here’s a itinerary and few tips and tricks for Mallorca, well worth a (re)visit.
Due to the short timespan we allowed ourselves to take several shortcuts and omissions but the following is a fairly truthful portrait of what we liked.
a. Hotel Hospes Maricel – excellent, make sure to get full seaview and be aware that seaview + terasse is in limited supply. Service was impecable, season less so.
b. We only ate extremely well following the tips of friends and concierge.com
b1: Hotel breakfast included: Iberico ham, fresh juice, good youghurts and ++
b2: Tapas in Calvia: Excellent Meatballs, poivron de padron, aijoli to kill for etc etc.
b3: Simply Fosh: Best price quality i remember. 54€/5 course tasting menu + 38€ for 1996 Rioja (Muga…Mujaro????) – beautifully presented and excellently combined – simply delicious
b4: La Boveda: Tapas again, the original Mallorca place in Palma for fair priced and seriously good tapas, especially the Iberico Ham and Calamara Frito was memorable but also a nice bottle of Ribera del duero Red for just 22€ (Name to be seen in picture gallery)
Rental cars: We rented a very dented Renault Megane Cabriolet… diesel with 58000km’s on the clock. 3 days were cheaper than two at 90€ including insurance.
The car worked fine and open top was excellent on this little island to max out on our sun/skin ratio in such short time. I was however lately informed that you can actually rent the smallest class of car(Ford ka/Kia Picanto) for 3 days @ 35 euro total. Must be best price of the world (challenge!!).
Everywhere below Paris or Milano the same rule applies, the smaller the car the happier the traveller.
Lessons Learned
- Charge your camera and turn if off, hence pictures from day 2 is from HTC HD2.
- Rent a car, get around
- Eat well
Looks like you had an absolutely wonderful time!
Also the HD2 pics look pretty decent although of course they can't compete with your “real” cam.
Mallorca is great for this type of vacation/getaway AND you should definitely allow yourself to take the car/bike (if you're fit/crazy) up through Soller to the North of the Island.
For cyclists there are some excellent hills to enjoy and for everyone else there's very nice scenery.
