Μέθεξις (Methexis), Paleochora, Crete, Greece

Methexis is my favorite restaurant in the village of Paleochora. Good food, cooked lovingly.

Paleochora has to my knowledge around 45+ restaurants. Most of these serve greek cuisine and has reasonable large menu’s and good/correct pricing. Of these and from those I have tried the clear favorite of mine is Methexis.
Somewhat simpler presented and less photogenic than Sto Scolio, Methexis is a wonderful classic restaurant. The kitchen every day creates tender slow cooked dishes using fresh local ingredients.
Come early because later it will be sold out.
On the eastern corner of the village overlooking the Libyan sea towards the island Gavdos
Menu, but here we always visit the kitchen to see the food
Fried Courgettes
Fried Cheese balls and lemon
Saganaki
Grilled fresh Octopus
Mothers house salad, a must here
Fennel Pie
Tzatziki
Small fresh and fried octopus
Fried Mushrooms
Zucchini flowers filled with rice
Goat on the bone, a house speciality..
Lamb in the oven?
Classic Moussaka
Feta filled beef burger
Rabbit Stifado
Grilled Chicken
Classic cretan dessert on the house
Dinner and wine for 7 no longer hungry people
Followed by a “little” Raki or what Jonas?

I think this is now the most popular restaurant in the area. Always full and reservations required I will recommend it should you be in Paleochora. The brothers Andreas and Nektarios run an effecient, super friendly and generous front of the house. a house which is also opened in winter when the tourists like us stay home in our offices in the north.
Special mention must go to both the goat, lamb and the house salad – simple and delicious.
Thanks for having us 🙂
